(The SAVE BAHRS SCRUB community group began with LACA as an umbrella group. See articles on LACAs website .)
The Save Bahrs Scrub Alliance was formed in November 2009 and comprises major conservation groups Logan & Albert Conservation Association (LACA) , Brisbane Regional Environment Council (BREC), Wildlife Logan, Gecko – Gold Coast & Hinterland Environment Council, the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland, Gold Coast (WSPQ GC), and key individuals.
The aim of the Save Bahrs Scrub Alliance (SBS), is to campaign for the preservation and regeneration of the Bahrs Scrub Precinct a biodiversity hotspot which has been mandated for major development .
The SBS Alliance seeks to compile comprehensive flora and fauna lists to inform the community, business interests and all relevant governing authorities about the very high conservation value of the Bahrs Scrub Precinct, thereby demanding a high level of protection for the area.
The Alliance also seeks to identify the range of development constraints within the Bahrs Scrub Precinct and to ensure the best outcome for biodiversity and local ratepayers in planning for the Precinct.
SBS has been established as a sub-group, subsequent to a motion passed by the Logan and Albert Conservation Association (LACA) to auspice the Alliance.
Membership of SBS is free; however membership of LACA or donation is encouraged; Executive positions must be held by paid LACA members; LACA membership may be completed online at www.laca.org.au.
Regularly updated SBS and Bahrs Scrub information is available on the LACA website: www.laca.org.au as well as the SBS dedicated website, www.bahrsscrub.org.au
